Flower Power

Perhaps nothing quite lifts the spirits and makes you smile as quickly as flowers can which probably explains why weddings are so synonymous with beautiful blooms. From the bridal bouquets to the boutonnieres to the ceremony and reception décor, flowers have a dramatic impact. They make a statement; reflect your personal style and, well, they just make everyone happy!

So, along with BG’s resident flower (and budget) guru, Executive Editor Susan Schneider, I eagerly accepted an invitation from the Society of American Florists to attend “The Flower Factor,” an event featuring new tips and trends on, what else? flowers. We walked off the gray streets of NYC into a floral fantasy where room vignettes were set up featuring the most gorgeous array of colorful plants and flowers all created by Tim Farrell of Farrell's Florist in Drexel, PA. Already I could feel my spirits lift!

In each of the room vignettes we were introduced to some very impressive experts on how to incorporate flowers into your life. First up was Jeanne Benedict, host of DIY Network’s “Weekend Entertaining.” Jeanne is also a chef and the author of four books including “The Sophisticated Cookie” and “Celebrations”. Fun with the Girls

What I want in a girls getaway? Good food, shopping(!!), great spa services, music and dancing, and of course my bestest friends to share it all with.

So, all you East-coasters—you can get all this AND more at Mohegan Sun! I recently spent just a night there and couldn’t believe all I needed was so close to home, tucked away in the Connecticut countryside. Not only do they have spacious and luxurious rooms, great concerts (an arena that seats about 10,000 and gets top performers) and fabulous restaurants, but also lots of shops and nightclubs, plus casino action galore. All this packed into the most spectacularly designed resort built by the Mohegan Indian Tribe.

Go for your bachelorette weekend, or with your fiancé to get away from wedding planning, or for no good reason at all. Just. Go!
