If you’re a worst-case scenario bride, then you’re probably taking all the precautions to make sure that Mother Nature, annoying family members and forgotten tasks don’t ruin your special day. Well, in the world of soap operas, a little rain and a nagging mother are nothing. These brides have to arm themselves against some pretty crazy scenarios to make sure their weddings go off without a hitch. So, in honor of Amanda and Jake’s upcoming nuptials, here are five All My Children wedding disasters and some words of advice about how to avoid repeating history.

Disaster #1: The Bride is in Love
with the Groom’s Twin Brother

The Situation: In 1993, Stuart thought Gloria was his lucky lady love and popped the question. Sadly, she wasn’t in love with him but his identical twin brother Adam. So, she left poor Stuart at the altar all dressed up without a bride to marry.

Lesson Learned: Check with your bride to make sure that a) she knows who you are and b) she’s in love with you, not the guy who looks like you. If she spends more time with your brother or she accidentally calls you by his name, then those might be warning signs telling you that there’s a problem on your hands. Jake may not have a twin, but he does have a brother. Perhaps he should make sure Amanda only has eyes for him and not Tad.

Disaster #2: The Bride's Fake Identity is Revealed

The Situation: After throwing her sister, Natalie, down a well and assuming her identity to get Trevor, Janet was sent to jail. In 1994, she was released early after having experimental plastic surgery and went after Trevor once again. She successfully tricked him and was on her way to happily ever after until an attack by Harold the Dog on their wedding day exposed her true identity.

Lesson Learned: Trevor should have made sure he knew where the mother of his daughter was at all times. If he did, then he’d know that Janet was out and definitely didn’t look like herself. Janet should have known to put “No dogs allowed” on the invitation. Since Janet is Amanda’s mother, she may want to pay close attention to her past mistakes to avoid repeating them. Thankfully, she’s nothing like her mother…or is she?

Disaster #3: The Groom's Dead Wife Comes Back to Break Up the Wedding

The Situation: In 2002, Brooke and Edmund finally made their way to the altar after years of marrying other people. Unfortunately, Edmund’s dead wife, Maria, miraculously appeared in Pine Valley. Although she went by the name of Maureen because she had amnesia, Brooke had a feeling it was her and kept the secret from Edmund. Sadly, Edmund found out and annulled their short-lived marriage.

Lesson Learned: Make sure your dead wife is actually dead. Yes, Brooke should have probably said something to Edmund the minute she had her suspicions, but none of this would have happened if he’d taken the time to make sure Maria was indeed dead. Thankfully, Jake doesn’t have a dead wife, but hey, you never know. He could have a deep, dark secret he hasn’t shared with Amanda yet.

Disaster #4: Drug Lords Crash the Wedding

The Situation: Leo and Greenlee’s 2002 wedding was crashed my associates of Leo’s drug lord mother, Vanessa. During the chaos Greenlee’s father, Roger, was shot. Fortunately, they were able to get past all this drama and actually get married.

Lesson Learned: Eloping might have been the best option. If your family has a lot of baggage, then maybe a big wedding isn’t the way to go. Or, if you insist on having everyone there, make sure everyone goes through a metal detector and that heavy-duty security is in place. You can never be too careful. The only person Jake and Amanda have to worry about crashing their wedding is Janet. They may want to call...no, visit the hospital to make sure she’s still there, and if she’s not, perhaps shopping around for a security team might be in their best interest.

Disaster #5: The Groom’s Ex-Wife has Him Arrested for Bigamy

The Situation: When Ryan and Annie got married in 2007, they thought he was divorced from Greenlee. To their surprise, Greenlee showed up at their wedding and had Ryan arrested for bigamy. Apparently, she never filed the divorce papers and technically, they were still married.

Lesson Learned: Double and triple check that the divorce papers have been filed or do it yourself. Ryan really should have been on top of things and gotten confirmation that the divorce was final. Although Jake and Amanda are already married, that may not actually be the case. Jake has a couple of ex-wives, so he should probably make sure all the papers were filed—you know, just in case.
